Frequently Asked Questions

Transportation
  • Transport your Knot Baked products the same way you would transport any frozen item. At room temperature, products will generally remain frozen for about an hour.
  • For longer trips or warmer weather, you may need to keep the product in a cooler to keep it frozen during transit.
  • Do not transport thawed products that are rising. They will fall and become dense due to the movement of travel.
Storage
  • Always store your Knot Baked product in the freezer until you are ready to begin the thawing/rising process.
Thawing / Pre-Baking
  • Before baking, you will need to remove your Knot Baked product from the freezer and set it out on an even surface to thaw and rise. We recommend covering the dough with a tea towel or light-weight cloth.
  • The dough will need at least 5 hours to thaw and an additional hour or so to rise. The dough will not start the rising process until it has completely thawed.
  • While rising, the dough should rise up to nearly double its size. If the dough rises for longer than about an hour and a half, it will likely fall, causing the bread to be denser than ideal. Bake products after they have risen for about an hour for best results.
  • Swedish Rye products tend to thaw the fastest, needing only 4-5 hours, while all other products usually require 6-7 hours.
  • Dough rises best in warm and humid environments. Allow more or less time for thawing and rising based on the temperature of your home. All times provided by Knot Baked are based on a 72 degree temperature environment.
Baking
  • We recommend using an insulated cookie sheet for baking your Knot Baked product. This provides the most even baking.
Freshness
  • To maximize freshness, you should bake your Knot Baked product within 4 weeks of receiving it. After time, the yeast cultures start to die and your product will not rise as much. Products will rise less each week after the 4th or 5th week, and will not likely rise at all after about 4 months.
  • Knot Baked products are all natural, containing no preservatives. Once baked, you can expect it to last 1-2 days. We recommend storing your product in a Ziploc or air-tight Tupperware container.
Re-Heating
  • For best results, we recommend re-heating your breads in a toaster oven or conventional oven.
